How you can make a real change in 2014

Image from We Heart It

Fed up of making the same dead end new years resolutions year after year? Let's face it we all do it! That's why this year I'm making a resolution with a difference, I want to help make a real change! Why don't you join me?  Here's 3 easy-peasy ways you can help provoke a real change whilst having some real fun!

AGE CONCERN - SPREAD THE WARMTH

What do they do? – They make sure elderly people are kept “warm and well” during these horrid winter months. They provide them with heaters, electric blankets and warm clothes as well as, most importantly, someone to talk to. Support is crucial as 24,000 older people could die from the cold this winter - that’s a whopping 200 deaths a day!
What can I do? – You can challenge your friends and family to join in one of Age Concern’s Wrap Up And Run 10K races which are taking place all around England in March and April.  All the money raised goes towards the campaign and you’ll even get a souvenir finishers medal!
Sign up here!

STAND UP TO CANCER – COLOUR RUN

What do they do? -   They raise money to accelerate cancer research with the intentions of helping to bring forward the day when all cancers can be cured. Funds are a necessity as the fight against cancer is at a turning point. It’s not technology or knowledge that is holding back finding a cure – it’s funding.  This is why projects like this are so important and deserve everyone’s support!
What can I do? – You can get a group of your friends together and take part in the happiest 5K out going, you'll start the run dressed completely in white and by the end you’ll be covered in all the colours of the rainbow thanks to the fabric paint clouds that will cover you after each kilometre! Some would say it’s more of a party then a run there’s no winner or losers just time to create amazing memories! The run is usually held during July and August and is suitable for all ages!
Although registration isn't open yet you can vote to get Colour Run to come to your town here!

GUIDE DOGS – GO WALKIES
What do they do? -  They help train guide dogs for the blind and partially-sighted in hope to make their lives a little easier and to give both the owner and the dog a friend for life!

What can I do? – You can go grab your pooch (or even a relative’s or friend’s dog!) and go join in your local sponsored Go Walkies event. There's events taking place throughout the year, up and down the country. Your dog will even get a special collar tag and lucky bag full of treats just for taking part!
To find your nearest event click here and here’s a special downloadable toolkit too!

There's so many charity events happening up and down the country and there's something out there suitable for everyone. So let's get behind these charities and help those who need it most!

    1. I'm so sorry to hear that! It's such a terrible disease and like yourself I've had someone close to me lose their battle recently. That's why I think funding for research is vital, we could be so close to a medical breakthrough to put an end to Cancer just without furthur funding we can't progress to that stage.

    1. The idea only hit me a couple of weeks ago, if my new year's resolutions only have an effect on myself I feel a lot less motivated to follow through with them. By making resolutions to help others I feel much more driven to complete them! It's a great feeling knowing you've helped someone less fortunate than yourself, they're a win win! :)

  8. What a great post. I have been thinking about approaching a local charity to see if they need any help with fundraising or generating interest through my blog but I haven't done it yet because (in truth) I'm a bit lazy. Gonna get my butt in gear now. Thanks for the encouragement :D

    1. Thank you so much! I'm pretty lazy too, but I just think about the feel good factor that comes with helping people, your local charities will appreciate all the help you can give them no matter how big or small!
